In Nepali Wedding Celebrations “Saat Phera” translates to the “7 Rounds”. The bride and groom circle around the sacred fire seven times. The bride leads the groom, signifying her determination to stand beside her husband in happiness and sorrow. We detail these rituals below!
Amy + Sanjog’s unique ceremonies are truly unforgettable! Not only is this couple charming, they are also so sweet, and easy to work with!
We had such fun designing for the big day, we’re sad it’s over! Rich, luxurious color, and exquisite taste were in abundance for this wedding suite. Hand-torn edges give these show-stopping invitations a sublime finish. We love getting the chance to make multiple, cohesive invites, it allows us to set the tone for the color palette.
The groom's side is Nepali, and the Nepali celebration was at the Eldorado Hotel & Spa in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The ‘Western’ traditional Wedding was on the following day at the Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado Santa Fe.
Now that you’re completely obsessed with this couple, (just like us), here are more inspiring moments from the big days. We dare you not to look!!! We. Just. Can’t. Stop.
This wedding suite is so EXTRA, we have to gush, gush, and gush some more!
NEPALI WEDDING CEREMONY
- the deets -
Since we consider our blog audience to be some of our V.I.P.’s, we are including this exclusive section detailing Nepali celebrations! And believe us, it’s completely fascinating.
JANTI AAGAMAN // This procession marks arrival of the Groom and his family.
BARANI // The bride’s parents await the groom in the jagge, (ceremony structure), and place tikka, (vermilion powder), on his forehead.
KANYE AAGAMAN // Arrival of the bride to the jagge.
GANAPATI PUJA // A pooja, (prayer), to Lord Ganesh, (deity depicted with an elephant head, and human body), that guides the couple towards a successful journey together.
SWAYAMVARA // Is an ancient Hindu practice of choosing a husband among various suitors. Once chosen, each will place a garland around each other’s neck, indicating their intention to marry.
HASTA MELAP // In this ritual, the bride’s parents entrust their daughter to the groom by putting the bride’s right hand in the groom’s right hand, while reciting sacred verses.
HAVAN // The couple invokes Agni, (God of Fire), by lighting the fire, to witness their commitment to each other.
SINDOOR DAAN // The groom will place Sindoor, (vermilion powder), on the parting of the bride’s hair, symbolizing her new marital status, and a desire for her husband’s longevity.
LAGAN GAANTHO // The bride and groom are tied together with a scarf to symbolize their eternal bond.
SAAT PHERA (Referenced above) // Translates to the “7 Rounds”. The bride leads the groom, while they circle the fire seven times. Each Phera represents a prayer or promise:
First Phera - Nourishment // Second Phera - Strength // Third Phera - Prosperity
Fourth Phera - Family // Fifth Phera - Progeny
Sixth Phera - Health // Seventh Phera - Love & Friendship
